I’ve spent the last month or so experimenting with my new Mirrorless Leica SLR -3. It’s been exciting. The last few weeks, I’ve been home a lot recovering from two surgeries, and every day I take some time to experiment.
I’m looking for pictures that are complex and test my skills. I succeed sometimes and fail, but I always learn something.
Here are three of my experiments:
The first, above, was a clothesline blowing in the wind, I was inside the house looking out. The camera has a fast setting, and I caught the wind precisely as I saw it. This was taken with a 55 mm portrait lens, a great camera for short distances. It’s a Sigma lens.
The second camera, below
This photo was also taken in the wind; it’s slightly out of focus, a bit too far for the 55 mm. I should have adjusted the focus a little more.
I am learning the distances for the shots I want, I am primarily on auto-focus, but I want to shift to manual.
I need more practice before I can do that well, then I’ll take the plunge. Truthfully, I’m a little intimidated by the Leicas; they are so much smarter than I am.
I also took this picture this afternoon with the 55 mm portrait lens.
I got just the effect I wanted, beautiful flowers filling the screen. Each of these images taught me something different about my camera and lens.
I love learning and am amazed at the human ability to keep growing at any age.
And I have so much more to learn.
Hmmm…the picture of Maria with the donkeys is in focus, just not on your subject matter. Look in the upper right corner, that object is in focus, as are the tree limbs in the upper left….but the rocks start going out of focus. That was on auto focus? It appears they were all taken with a small depth of field too? The crack in the glass really shows that. Just curious! The way you presented these shots make me feel like I am in a photo class figuring things out! Fun stuff and don’t fear using all manual…that is when it gets really fun.
Yes Lisa, that was the experiment I mentioned, the trees were in focus and Maria and the donkeys were not. I wanted to see how it worked..I found out… I’m looking forward to Manual, this was one of the things I wanted to try…
Gotcha okay! I just popped on Leica’s website…oooh it’s very digital…after learning on a totally manual camera, I think I would be a bit intimidated too! As they say “carry on!” 🙂
Thanks, Lisa, Leica is not simple…
