Photo Journal, Saturday, April 15: Spring Training – Meditation, Flower Show, Camera And Lens Warm-up For The Big Show

by Jon Katz

We got up early and rushed out to buy some more giant pansies to relieve the photo burden on our first little ones.

We hit the jackpot. I won’t beat around the bush, and I went out with my Leica and two lenses – a Sigma 85mm, a Sigma Macro Lens,  a Leica 20 mm, and my Iphone 13.

It’s time for me to try out my new camera and the two lenses I’ve rented to see if they work for me.

We are working hard to get in shape. All I had to work with, really, were pansies and some brand-new Magnolias. I’m saving the Magnolias for later.

Tonight, I will sleep in our bed for the first time since the surgery. I tried out the stairs, and I could handle them.

Maria and I mediated silently for an hour this evening; I’ve realized the physical healing from the surgery seems to be going very well, but the emotional part also needs some time and thought.

I will work on that with Maria’s help and support this weekend. There was some psychological kickback I was slow to recognize.

The process was unnerving in some ways, including the sense that I was seen as critically ill and even pitiful. I’m not sure that feeling was justified, but I did feel it. So I want to sort it out. I think I was projecting some old feelings triggered by the decision to amputate a toe.

I read that this was likely to happen.

In the meantime, I’m pleased with my new camera and how Maria and I handled this. We did a good job.

Come and see my photos. This was Pansie Day. There are very few other flowers yet. I’m grateful to them.

I planted primrose, Nasturtium, Begonias, and two other flowers in the raised beds. I want to get a jump on summer, but it’s earlier than recommended. If it gets told, I’ll throw some tarp over the plants.

  1. beautiful photo’s, Jon. Love the new lenses and the clarity they bring. I wish you a VERY good nights sleep in your bed tonight, it will do wonders for you…….but don’t forget to turn the light on if you need to go downstairs during the night! LOL, couldn’t resist! I also appreciate your sharing of the very emotional aspects of this surgery….. and the feeling of some trepidation you may feel when you see your *new* foot on Monday. It’s so much more than a physical loss, isn’t it? and this aspect is not discussed much. Thank you for your candor, as always
Sweet dreams and pleasant night to you
