Two Clouds I’ve Never Seen Before

by Jon Katz

I was driving into town around midday and saw two clouds hovering above me that I’d never seen before and couldn’t identify. I pulled over to take these photos.

Im not into spaceships, but it did occur to me –  Agent Mulder came to mind.

I am a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society and thumbed through their guidebook – I found nothing like these two clouds in their guide.

I’m not really into that stuff, but the images were haunting. And very beautiful. Five minutes later, they were gone.

From Wikipedia: Lenticular clouds are stationary clouds that form mainly in the troposphere, typically in parallel alignment to the wind direction. They are often comparable in appearance to a lens or saucer. Nacreous clouds that form in the lower stratosphere sometimes have lenticular shapes.

  1. What a great “society!” My partner and I do lots of cloud gazing here in Texas. Perhaps I’ll get him a membership for his birthday in April…

Happy cloud watching and thanks for sharing this information and the pics.
