Nor’Easters are like hurricanes; you get clobbered at the beginning and then again at the end. We’re expected to get up ro 18 inches of heavy wet snow; the power went off at 8 a.m. and returned five hours later. We used our new generator for the first time, and it worked beautifully.
We had everything we needed – heat, water, light, and refrigeration. And we’re not done yet. Snow and wind tonight and into tomorrow morning. The cars are dug out; we have a path to the pasture. I set off to chase the storm here and around and capture the feeling of it. Here are some of those images:
I heard the geese long before I saw them appear through the mist, wind, and snow; I could hardly believe they could keep such a neat and beautiful formation. I can hardly believe I got the photo; they were barely visible in the driving snow.
We realized this morning that we had run out of birdseed. How ridiculous, we thought, to feed the birds through most of the winter but not have any food when they need it. So we rushed out to the hardware store and got some.
An old barn that has seen an awful lot of storms and snow.
Sheep are confused when they can’t graze. We tossed some hay into the Pole Barn
Zinnia and Fate rushed to the compost this morning and uncovered a break-in during the stormy night, a deer probably, maybe even a bear. We think they went right through the fencing and were after the garlic.
Zinnia is a snow dog that rolls in, runs in it, and eats it. She is a kind of peaceable canine polar bear.
My favorite trees (photographically.)

What lovely photos!
Thanks Florence
At least you know it wasn’t vampires getting into the compost!
How can I be sure?
Great photos! Our storm pretty much fizzled here in eastern CT, but the western side of the state got clobbered. Snowing here now, so we’ll see if it amounts to anything. Glad you, Maria, the dogs, and all the critters are okay!
That wolfhead cane would be sure to scare the vampires away, while impressing the heck out of everybody else.
beautiful photography. thank you for the experience of nor’easter.
Thanks Nancy more to come.
beautiful photos! I especially love the geese and the snow encrusted sheep! Glad (I think!) you finally got to use your generator and that it is serving you well. You are getting the cold, snow and ice……and we are still being inundated with yet more rain here in very waterlogged Calif……….. haven’t had to use our new generator yet……but it’s at the ready! Be warm and safe!

Here, you thought winter was over. That heavy wet snow is tough on everybody and all the animals.
