Sunday Was Just Right, It Was The Day I Wanted To Have, My Own Custom Designed Flexible Sabbath

by Jon Katz

I organized myself today and had the peaceful, mostly silent, scaled, and reflective day I want and need once a week. I call it my own Flexible Sabbath.

I took some nice photos; I trusted them to speak for themselves; I finished one book Friday night and yesterday and one today. A horse and I deepened our friendship by looking deeply into one another eyes again (I forgot to bring the apple.)

I’m unsure whether Saturday or Sunday is best for this, but I’ll sort it out. I was pleased with today, it felt just right, and I love the photos standing out on their own with the barest explanations.

I don’t always wish to do that, but some pictures should speak for themselves; it felt perfect today. I’m learning to trust them.

I got up very early; I meditated, napped, walked with Maria at terrific Asian food, and polished off another book. I spent some time out looking for pictures.

And I spent very little time blogging.

It was, for me, a spiritual day, free and silent, full of love, meaning, and self-awareness. A woke day, if you will, a peaceful day, no phones, news, or e-mail.

Tomorrow morning, Monday, I have to go to Saratoga Springs early to get my new orthotic brace adjusted per the orders of my surgical podiatrist. Next week I will have to decide whether or not to amputate my big left toe; I’ll update it this coming week. I won’t be posting in the morning.

Several people were worried that we had burned the white chair in the barn. We wouldn’t. It’s still on its throne, along with some other vintage chairs, which one day will be restored.

I put my new Raven Muse to work tonight. It’s from China, and I appreciate the light at night.

My wolf cane made its first restaurant appearance this afternoon; Maria and I went to a terrific new Laotian restaurant in nearby Schuylerville Sunday afternoon. I had noodles with shrimp. Here’s my hat, the cane, and the food.

With longer days, I’m losing my Hopper-ish photos. I’ll have to look elsewhere for now. But the light is still exciting, and we get our salads there several days a week, sometimes their excellent pizza also.
