Self Portrait. Man With A Hat And Camera

by Jon Katz

I took this self-portrait in the downstairs bathroom (there isn’t an upstairs bathroom, at least not yet); I’m thinking of a new Saturday routine, putting up photos but no text for that day only, a kind of creative Sabbath.

Maria does not go online on Saturday. It works well for her. I’m not religious but the Sabbath is a Jewish idea I have a lot of respect for.

I’m not sure about it, and it’s just a thought.

  1. I agree with the other “Pat”….Nice hat! Hope to be sending some more headbands for the Mansion ladies in the near future. Happy Saturday,

  2. I’ve read the book Sabbath by Wayne Muller and learned some surprising things about the Jewish rituals for the Sabbath – including taking time for sex- and realizing I can choose any day for my personal Sabbath. Thanks for the reminder

  3. It’s so common to resist using assistive devices (I was a physical therapist for 30 years and dealt with this constantly). Recently a friend who has been in a wheelchair for years put it so simply. The devices are just tools, and having the right tool makes life better.
And you have chosen a wonderful and meaningful cane – enjoy!
