Bud’s Treat Patrol On Wake-Up Call. They Were Patient

by Jon Katz

Bud’s morning treat patrol with the other two dogs was interrupted by my bronchitis the past few days – I’ve been sleeping downstairs in my reading chair with Maria next to me on the couch. I wasn’t there for my usual post-shower greeting.

This morning, I slept for six hours, the first time I slept much since Friday. The dogs had a new strategy. When I opened my eyes at 5:30 this morning, Bud, Zinnia, and Fate were right there, eager eyes, tails wagging, asking politely for their morning treat.

They got it, of course. They were loving and patient while I was coughing, I got up, and they got their treats. Bud has organized the treat patrol; it is polite, non-intrusive, and well-behaved. Once they get their pleasure, they don’t expect another one and never bug me.

Bud knows his stuff.

We have an excellent working relationship.

P.S. I am offering something new on the blog; I call it Dog Support. If you are having difficulties with a dog, new or old, bought or adopted, fill out this very brief questionnaire, and I’ll contact you. If I can help, I will.

More than 23 million people adopted dogs during the early day of the pandemic; some are having difficulty with training and behavior. I’m happy to try and help. I’ve helped more than a score of people. It feels good.

I charge $65 for the consultations.

You can find the Dog Support form here.
