An Edward Hopperish Visit To The Shift Wagon Once More. The Meditterean Salad. (In Cambridge, Really?)

by Jon Katz

I told Corey and Sarah that I was mildly obsessed with their food wagon – Shift Wood-Fired Pizza because of how it processed the light in the dark and because I thought of Hopper’s paintings whenever anyone came up to the window, which stands out in the dark alongside the Argyle Brewery three days a week from 4 to 7 p.m.

They laughed. They don’t read blogs and have never seen my photos; one day, I’ll get them some pictures for them to look at.

When the light lasts longer, I’ll lose that light, and the Hopper effect will be lost. I have a month or so to go. These photos are essential to me; they captured Hopper’s loneliness and isolation about people in America out at night searching for food.

The Cambridge food co-op feels lonely to me also, especially at dusk. It’s light against the dark. We are hooked on Shift’s wonderful and exceptionally healthy salad bowls. Tonight, we both got a Mediterranean Bowl for $9.50. quinoa, Arrugal, Cucumber Tomato, Red Pepper, Hummus, Tzatziki w/Lemon.

Cheap, healthy, and even delicious.
