As a photographer, I believe arctic cold looks different in the sky than winter cold. It has a paler feel, and the clouds are more restrained, even dignified. I consider the arctic sky the most beautiful.
The cold began to arrive last night; I went outside to catch the night sky when the temperatures dropped, and the wind blew.
The wind is howling and gusting now; I’ll be surprised if the power doesn’t go out. We might get to use our generator.
At sunrise, the bedroom and living room windows were covered with frost. That only happens when it’s freezing.
The sun rose behind this crystal hanging piece. We knew the cold was here.
The night sky was forbidden, jet black, but the moon lit up our apple tree.
I had gone down to the Shift Food cart for my Edward Hopper image. I think I’m addicted to it; the contrast is exceptional. More later, the worst of the storm will be tonight. This time, the weather hype is for real. I’m going to lie down for a while. I’ll be back. Stay warm.
It’s too cold for Fate to go outside and work. She sits by the window and stares at the sheep.
(Biddie seems fine this morning; we’re keeping her in a stall in the barn until Sunday.)
Ooh, these are lovely. And you’re right, the sky looks so different for all kind of temperature and weather changes; those clouds look like they’re in a hurry! Love the moonlit apple tree, that sun in the frosted window, and poor house-bound Fate surrounded by color instead of her sheep.
Jon, I want to share something off topic. I gravitate to audiobooks rather than reading in print. Awhile ago I noticed that I had not listened to the list of your books for some time. I am now playing them as I am painting in my basement studio. And often during road-trips in the car. The voice of the reader is awesome. Love him. Looked him up and heard that he has passed last year. What a loss! Tom Stechschulte adds so much of what I imagine is you to the books. Fabulous. And the stories are so well written and when I combine them with your blogs, it is starting to feel as if we are good friends. Isn’t that weird! I know I am not your friend, fear not, stalking is not in my repertoire either. There is jus something so familiar.
I am thankful for the great reading voice and the ditto stories and I hope that maybe one day your blog stories will be published as a book. Then begins the quest for a great new reader. Unless you would do that yourself!
I just wanted to post this. The books are wonderful during these frigid times in the car or the studio.
So we’ll done , Jon. Love your work!
Stay healthy and warm, eh!
