From The Brooklyn Bridge, Emma Hits Another Photographic Home Run

by Jon Katz

Emma is my daughter, so perhaps I’m not objective, but she takes beautiful photographs all the time with excellent composition and tremendous patience and skill.

There is a lot of emotion in every one of her photos, as there is in her, and, hopefully, me.

The Brooklyn Bridge took this photo yesterday.

The seagull cooperated. That takes patience.

Emma lamented the lack of sunlight – she is one of those people who is rarely satisfied with her work – but I love the picture, it has great feeling, and the gull is a smash sitting right there in the middle.

It’s one of those photographs you can look at a dozen times and see something new each time. I am always proud of my daughter, but I love our photographic conversations without words.

  1. Wonderfully parallel lines, a little off to enhance tension, inorganic dominated by organic foreground, muted tones… .

  2. How did Emma manage to not scare the bird off, amazing. Don’t think I ever looked closely at a photo of a seagull. Thank you for making me look
