January is a good time for me to ask for blog support; I do it bi-monthly when I remember. At the beginning of the year, all kinds of plug-ins, web, and maintenance fees for the log come due.
People kindly thank me for the flower winter therapy, but I was reminded this week that the flowers also cost some money these days; I ordered mine for the four raised beds I now have, the source of my flower photos. Everything seems to be more expensive than I thought it would be.
Pretty flowers cost money and a lot of work. They are something new for e to love in my love, and more are coming for Spring 2023.
The blog support supports a lot of things – the blog, the animals, the flowers, the good deeds that need thought and attention, my help for the Mansion, and Sue Silverstein’s excellent refugee student brigade.
My photography, an integral part of my work now, is also expensive. I’ll be paying off those Leicas for a while.
When I gave up book writing to devote myself to the full blog time, I gave up those sweet royalty and contract checks.
The blog is the center of all my creative work now, and I realized it’s okay to be paid for it.
It’s a fair tradeoff, and I did it with an open heart, but it does mean I have to worry about money, just like everyone else.
So if you appreciate the blog, the flowers, the essays, the pictures, or the work of the Army of Good, please consider supporting it and the time I put into it.
January is one of the most challenging months, blog-wise.
You can help support my blog in several ways if it is meaningful to you; donations are voluntary, and small ones are as good as big ones to me.
You can subscribe for as little as $5 a month or $75 a year. All contributions are voluntary; the blog is free and will always be accessible to people who can’t afford to pay me. I understand.
The blog is free, period, with no strings attached.
You can also donate any amount to Paypal, [email protected], or Venmo, Jon-Katz@Jon-Katz 13. You can send a check in any amount to Jon Katz, Blog Support, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
I want to be paid for my work, but I also am grateful for whatever help people can offer. The blog is one of the loves of my life, and I work hard at it every day. That will never change as long as I am able.
No financial information on my website or blog, my security is solid, there is nothing to steal but my photos, and they are accessible to anyone who wants them.
Thanks for your help; it means a lot and does a lot of good.

And please check out dog support, something new and exciting for me in 2023. Dog support is not free, but it can be very helpful.
I make a small automatic monthly donation, it’s easy and I SO appreciate what you and Maria do.
Thanks Barbara, I appreciate what you do as well..
Good photo of the hollyhock, I love my hollyhocks, too. You and Maria got your Dec. blog checks and thanks for the note you each sent in return. I was ill when I sent the checks, got MUCH worse on Dec. 24, but finally home from the hospital after 10 days, 3 scopes and one surgery. Sure hoping to feel better soon, and I trust your health issues will also improve this year. I’m 71 and happy to still be here, and still kicking, as I know you are, too. We will think positive, and enjoy each day. Good wishes to you both.
I like your “winter therapy” idea. Flowers do bring joy regardless of the season. They just have this effect on people. I will look to send a donation.
