Lulu’s been limping on her right forefront for about a week now, we think it’s an abscess, which sometimes heals itself. Maria went out into the pole barn with a bucket of warm water and got Lulu’s foot into it for a while.
The limping got worse, We called our farrier, Matt Ross, but he’s sick, and tomorrow is the scheduled arrival of the dread storm called Elliott. She might have to wait for a couple of days.
Most of the time, the abscesses pop themselves, but after a week, if it doesn’t go away, we ask for help.
She’s eating well and looks healthy, and nothing is caught in her foot. It’s possible she twisted her leg, but you never know. The farriers do know. Matt will be here in the next couple of days.
Maybe the soaking helped it start to come to a “head” and it is a bit more painful-maybe see if you can get some Icthamol salve and wrap it with Vetrap to try to continue to draw it out (assuming it’s a “gravel/abcess”). The store in Greenwich must have some-we use it for the horses when they have this same problem and it draws well. Some claim cow sh*t works well as a poultice as well-but Icthamol is nicer to deal with, lol. Hopefully if that’s what it is, it will pop and she will get relief. Fingers crossed!
