Photo Journal, November 20, 2022, Bitter Cold, Easing Into A Week Of Peacefulness and Gratitude (And Winter)

by Jon Katz

So far, our efforts to slow down a bit this holiday week are working. Monday will be a big test. We are quieting down, working less, meditating and reading, and walking more. I painted a bit and will practice my Ukulele tonight.

We filled the bird feeder in the back yard with seed today, a woodpecker was one of the first to show up. (below.) Above, the outside chairs to inside, so do the barn cats.

I loved this weekend and feel rested, grounded, and at peace. No news (I am addicted to the Elon Musk $49 billion and spectacularly maniacal destruction of Twitter, I’ve long ago canceled from there.

Musk shows us that money does not help sanity, intelligence, or common sense. Whatever Musk ends up doing, I don’t want to be there.  We don’t need it, but the country is gaining another shitstorm.

I see that for several famous people, that’s the point.

It’s cold now, and we think for real. The barn cats go into the basement for at least a few days to sleep in their heated cat house. Minnie was the first one this afternoon; Flo will surrender shortly after she comes out of her woodshed hideaway.

Maria takes Saturdays off from blogging, something I don’t seem to be able to do. She blogs on Sunday and has found a new and comfortable blogging corner. I never considered Maria a devoted blogger, but she is a natural.

Maria and I brought the friendship chairs into the barn for the winter, and we put birdseed into the feeder. It’s bitterly cold and windy, but we missed the monster storm that hit Buffalo.

Foot doctor in the morning tomorrow, more later. Thanks for all the good words about my photo Walk-A-Bouts. I am enjoying them very much. It’s an excellent way to take photos and write about my life.

Every day, rain or shine, I take Zinnia out into the pasture and throw the bawl until she gasps. Today, it was cold and windy, but I hung in there and got to see this beautiful dusk.

Today the friendship chairs out near the pasture were hauled into the barn. We won’t see them until the Spring. It’s a bit sad, but the dusk was quite beautiful.
