Sue Silverstein’s Amazing Bishop Gibbons Art Program Needs Stuffing, Burlap And Christmas Fabric. Come See The Student Art Of The Week

by Jon Katz

Sue Silverstein, an art teacher at Bishop Gibbons High School and the creator of one of the most extensive and radically different art programs anywhere, has put out a call to the Army of Good for stuffing to make pillows and other clothes, along with burlap bags and Christma fabric to use this year.

If you have any of these things, please consider sending them to the school or buying them if you prefer.

The address is Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School,  2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304. If you’d like me to buy them, you can donate via Paypal, [email protected] or Venmo, Jon-Katz@Jon-Katz-13, or by check to Jon Katz Refugee Fund, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.

Above, Abi is cutting patterns to make a dress (you can send designs too, if you have them, same address. Sue chose Abi’s foil piece below as the Art Project of the week.

Sue has told me many times that her wildly popular art program would not be possible if not for the Army Of Good. She thanks you, and I thank you.

Thanks so much for sending discarded metal objects,  feathers, old jewelry, acrylic paint supplies, and brushes to the school; they are being used daily.

Thanks to you and Sue’s unique creativity, the whole school has become engaged in the art program.
