This Time I Said No. Ukulele Lessons And Cold Wave Tonight. Dog Support As A Christmas Gift

by Jon Katz

I went to the chiropractor this afternoon and then had my weekly shopping to do. I got home, tired (my weekly Ukulele class is tonight, and I have had very little time to practice.)

I can’t wait to get home and read a new novel, “We Are The Light,” by Matthew Quick. It’s supposed to be a powerful and uplifting book about a community struggling to get past a school shooting, which is tragically commonplace now in this America.

Children being slaughtered in their classrooms is no big news anymore; there’s too much political fighting for the media or our numbed citizenry to get excited about children being slaughtered. I will do my best never to forget these children.

When I sat down to go over the mail, Bud let the Treat Committee over and quietly – no barking – started at me. I ignored them, which is not easy when those eyes are fixed on me. But I held my ground.

“Sorry guys, not tonight,” I said. “We only get one or two treats a day. Got to keep those fit bodies in shape.”

I’m tired and preparing for a stiff cold wave tonight, with temperature in the 20s. Tomorrow, I will make my bi-annual trip to the cardiologist. I look forward to it.

I’ll write more later if I have time tonight. I have a lot of things to say that I just haven’t gotten to yet.

P.S. A friend is buying a Dog Support meeting for her friend as a Christmas gift. She has a new dog who is causing a lot of trouble. I like the idea of Dog Support as a Christmas gift for friends and family. If you like the idea, e-mail me at [email protected].

  1. Hi Jon, What kind of dog is Fate. My Augie looks like her only he’s has more black fur. The ears and the face could be Augie only whiter. Supposedly, Augie is a mix of Golden Retriever, Poodle and Heeler. Thanks, Nonna
