Quilt In Progress. Stay Out.

by Jon Katz

There is always intense energy coming out of Maria’s studio, but at night it is practically mystical, I feel I can touch it. She calls it her Off Center Quilt and has not quite finished it or put it up for sale. You can e-mail her about it if you wish, [email protected].

One of the things I like about shorter days is that the energy is especially radiant; her studio practically glows in the dark.

She’s excited about this one and says it’s unlike anything she’s ever done.  You can follow its progress on her blog. I think it’s almost done, but that’s a guess.

(Off Center Quilt, not quite finished.)

I don’t go in there when she’s working on a quilt. Only Fate is allowed, or Bud if he gets called. If I have anything to say, I text. She’s been known to hole up in there for hours, sometimes singing and dancing, losing track of time.

I never interrupt her or ask her when she’ll be in. She’s in another world; it’s not for me to interrupt it.

  1. Well said. I am glad to hear that you know when to stay away. Many people don’t seem to understand the need for solitude in order to create.
