Tonight is the return of the blood moon, it won’t be seen again until 2025. Beginning at 2 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, the moon will begin a rare full eclipse, visible to the naked eye and especially visible to binoculars or telescopes.
The moon will be visible in North and Central America, Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of South America. Lunar eclipses occur when the moon, Earth, and sun are aligned and the moon passages into Earth’s shadow.
Total lunar eclipses are sometimes known as blood moons because of the dramatic coloring caused by the earth’s atmosphere, which scatters light from the sun and brandishes it on the face of the moon.
I imagine Maria will be up and walking around at 4 a.m. I might just pull off my Sleep Apnea mask and go with her.
