Asking Your Help: The New Amazon Bishop Gibbons Warmth Wish List For The Coming Cold

by Jon Katz

I’m excited to support the new Amazon Bishop Gibbons Warmth For Winter Wish List.

As the Army Of Good has done over the past few years, this Wish List is in support of cold weather supplies and clothing to help keep refugees and children in low-income families warm during the often harsh winters of upstate New York.

This is perhaps the most critical Wish List we do all year; for many people in this unique community, it is the difference between being warm and cold.

Sue Silverstein chose the items; no one I know is better suited to select them and make sure they go where they are needed.

Many of these students don’t get three meals; some sleep huddled together in one room to keep from large heating oil bills, which they cannot afford. Some show up in flip-flops.

There are 30 items, all chosen by Sue Silverstein after talking with the families of the Bishop Gibbons High School community about what they need.

They need winter jackets, blankets, thermal underwear, and healthy protein snacks for kids who don’t get to eat breakfast. They need personal care items from toothpaste to deodorant and other hygiene essentials. They need beanies and scarves and socks.

As you’ll see, the Wish Lists are heavy on winter coats and jackets, thermal underwear, and scarves. You can see the list right here.

If anyone has clean, discarded winter coats, you can also send them if you wish to Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304. Coats, jackets, and cotton beanies are much more requested this year. Inexpensive women’s scarves also are essential on this list ($7.99).

The Amazon list is set for Bishop Gibbons to be a default address, but if you don’t see that address, it is Bishop Gibbons, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304.

New refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan are arriving, and many have no winter clothes.

These are crucial small acts of great kindness, a Christic call to help the needy and the vulnerable.

I’m proud to be supporting this list; I hope we can help keep needy children and their families in the Bishop Gibbons community warm, as we have done for Bishop Maginn repeatedly. The clothing will go to refugees and any other families who need them.

I thank you. You can see the list and buy items by clicking here.

You can choose what you want to send and how much you can afford; there are no middlemen, and the items go directly to the school and the people who need them the most. Thank you.

Suppose you are uncomfortable purchasing items online or on Amazon. In that case, you can donate to me, Jon Katz, via Paypal, [email protected] or Venmo, Jon-Katz@Jon-Katz-13 or by check, Jon Katz, Bishop Gibbons Wish List, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.

I’ll make sure it is used to help these people be warm this winter; I’ll buy items off the list on your behalf; it’s already getting pretty cold.

Thank you, thank you. The world needs an Army Of Good.
