October’s Flower, Here We Go

by Jon Katz

I took a break from grandparenting to spot some beautiful leaves. I’ll get to Robin later.

Here we go, the leaves are turning beautifully, and I’m looking for my October flowers. I found this one on the edge of town.

We have been running back and forth all day with Robin and Emma, and we are all wiped out and happy. We went to a Vermont apple orchard, picked two huge bags, went out for breakfast, went to the bookstore, bought some books, fed the animals, explored the woods and the pond, worked on the new robot, and read stories aloud.

Robin fed chickens twice and cuddled Flo four or five times. And Bud, and Fate and Zinnia.

As I suspected, Maria and Robin bonded big time, and Bedlam Farm worked its magic on Robin.

Emma spent an hour or so with Flo, who she loves quite a bit, holding her; she noticed her deafness and frailty and wanted to spend time with her while she could.

In order, Robin loves the dogs, the chickens, the cats, the donkeys, and the sheep. She thinks the sheep are creepy and the donkeys are big enough to make her nervous.

I’ll be posting photographs of the day and writing about it in a Photo Journal this evening if I can stay awake or first thing in the morning). My photos are all organized, so I should get to it tonight.

I am sore and weary. We had a lot of fun.

It was a remarkable day. I’ve got to run, more later.
