Good Morning. Off To The Train Station

by Jon Katz

This morning, Maria and I will be off to the Albany Train Station to pick up my daughter Emma and granddaughter Robin.

This is one of the very few times my new and surviving family will all be together. I’m looking forward to this post-pandemic reunion.

Robin is eager to see the dogs and the animals, and we’re all going apple-picking in the morning.

I hope I get a chance to read some of the books I got for her. Emma, a big-shot New York editor, will have some work to do. I have to pick up some coffee for her; she doesn’t do well without coffee in the morning, as I recall.

Like Maria, she gets grumpy without food.

I took this shot of the bedroom window this morning, we set the bed so this window would be the first thing we saw in the morning, and it has never failed us.

The chimney outside is reflected in the bottom, the rising sun on the right—a sweet thing to see at sunrise.

When I came downstairs,  I saw one of Maria’s growing succulents in the window and realized I have been neglected the plants inside. I’ll do better.

I’ll keep in touch; I imagine a photo of Robin hand-feeding the chickens with Maria. We’ll see.

  1. So happy you can experience a much needed visit with Emma and Robin! I know it will be wonderful to see them, and for them to see you and Maria! It has been too long!
