Bud, The One-Man Committee This Morning. Dogs Are Always There To Lift Me Up

by Jon Katz

Zinnia and Fate went outside to the pasture this morning; Bud needed to come inside because it was cold. A one-man treat committee, he was, of course, undeterred.

When I came out of the shower, he was right at my feet, batting his big brown eyes. He got his treat, of course.

When I woke up this morning, Zinnia was waiting for me. It always surprises me to think about the meaning dogs have had in my life. They always seem to be there to lift me up and make me smile.

  1. When our last dog had to be put down 2019 we weren’t going to get another one because at our age we were afraid a dog might out live us. We went 2 months without one and our home and our lives were just too empty without one. So in September 2019 we adopted our girl Chloe from a shelter. I think God also knew I was going to need her because my son died in October very unexpectedly and Chloe was there by my side to help me get through the pain and loss Don’t know what I’d do without her.

    1. Good for you, Barb, there are literally tens of thousands of often unadoptable dogs languishing in shelters who would love to be in a human home for any period of time. It does them no favors to make them spend their lives in crates when there are so many good people like you who would love them and care for them.
