This is a very good way to start my day. I want to thank Karla in Illinois for being one of the first Army Of Good People to send Sue Silverstein this fantastic and large box of broken, abandoned, or forgotten jewelry pieces.
It feels good to do good. It does not feel good to be angry or fearful.
More boxes are arriving today, and more are on the way.
The Students at Bishop Gibbons High School are lining up to make their jewelry from recycled, broken, and forgotten jewelry, which lives in the attics, basements, and drawers of countless American homes.
Sue’s art program has taken off.
She can use all you can send: Sue Silverstein, Bishop Gibbons High School, 2600 Albany Street, Schenectady, N.Y., 12304. Thanks, Karla, and thanks to the other people sending jewelry, metal pieces, and clean old fabrics to Sue and her art students.
Later this week, we expect to launch an Amazon Wish List to provide winner clothes and toiletries to the refugee kids and any students and families in the Bishop Gibbons community who may need a little help this winter as energy and other prices soar.
We are focusing on items like shoes, boots, socks, blankets, and healthy snacks.
Sue is putting the list together now, and I’ll post it on the blog when she’s done. This is our fourth year helping keep people warm and comfortable during the winter.
Tomorrow is my first ukulele lesson. I’ll take pictures of Bob, my teacher, and report on how it went. I’m dubious.
This morning, the fourth weekly Zoom Meeting, “Let’s Talk,” will live on Zoom from 10 am Eastern Time to 9:45–11 am. You can sign up here. We are learning a lot, talking openly having fun.
Please take a look; I’ll be admitting people from 9:50 to 10 am and a bit beyond.

Very Exciting!! I will have jewelry and fabric on it’s way this week…some yardage African waxed fabric too! Along with a some other items.
As I have mentioned in previous posts and an email. I love tinkering with vintage sewing machines…does Sue have a child that would love a sewing machine at home? Right now I have a Kenmore 148.296 straight stitch, all medal machine that I have gone through and sews a beautiful stitch. I can pack and send it!
Thanks Lisa. I think we’re all set for sewing machines right now; several stores have donated some and that could get complicated but thanks for the jewelry and fabric, that will be much appreciated..
No worries! I can see how that could get complicated, especially if 3 different students wanted one to use at home!! I have a been giving machines to a sewing school for adult refugees in Portland ME, but wanted to check before heading over there tomorrow. Cheers!
Thanks again, Lisa, it would be complicated but you are doing a wonderful thing sending the jewelry, they are loving that.
