Last Coat, Apple Wood For My Study

by Jon Katz

The first thing I did this morning was paint the last polyurethane coat on my apple tree wood stand, a section of a huge limb from our apple tree which fell off the tree a few months ago.

I will use it as a stand for water, coffee, tea, or maybe a camera while I’m sitting at my computer.

Maria said she’s never seen me sand something before, I have vague recollections of sanding something at the first Bedlam Farm, but she might be right otherwise.

I’ve become mildly obsessed over this project. I did a lot of sanding, and the top is smooth. We’ll move it into my office once this last layer dries.

I love the idea of having a chunk of our apple tree right next to me while I write. Perhaps it can become a muse.

This morning, my Zoom talk with blog readers, tomorrow, Bishop Gibbons, and the refugee kids.

It was a mess when we pulled it out of the barn yesterday; lots of scraping and brushing, but it’s looking sharp now.
