October Light, Old Barn Cats Keeping Each Other Warm

by Jon Katz

I love the sky this week; sometimes angry, sometimes blue, sometimes gray, sometimes the sun wins the fight to get through. The skies have never been more beautiful; I don’t know what that means.

As the weather gets colder, Flo and Minnie, two proud and fierce old barn cats coming towards the end of their proud reign in the pastures and barns turn to one another for comfort and warmth.

They are always together now, curled up together, seeking comfort from one another. It touches me every time I see it.

In a month or two, they will be coming into the basement, into their heated bed and plenty of mice to hunt and light shining through the windows.  They will be warm, safe and well fed.
