Take Us With You

by Jon Katz

If you have dogs like mine, they will always want to come with you when they are in one place and you are doing to another.

Fate doesn’t ride around with me; she hangs around with Maria, chases sheep, and gets walks in the woods. We can’t take Bud to too many places; he is too excitable. If he sees a squirrel, he’ll be out the window.

Now that the weather is cooling off,  Zinnia is going everywhere with me once more. She always wants to come.

The dogs were in the backyard this morning; Maria had hung out to dry the sheets we used to cover the flowers in Sunday’s frost.

As I headed for the car, two heads popped up between the sheets, they had pleading eyes. Zinnia got to come.
