We’ve gone suddenly from heat warnings to frost warnings.
The first frost warning of the season is for tonight; temperatures are expected to go down into the low 30s.
We put sheets over the Dahlia garden, which is in full bloom, and the front half of my raised garden beds.
I don’t know how much good this will do., I expected to lose some of my flowers tomorrow, but the Zinnia’s are big and tall and hardy, and so are the blooming Marigolds.
I’m trying to protect some of the Memorial Garden plants and the Begonias behind them.
Maria and I went out with sheets and spread them where we could.
Jon, what is the lovely blooming bush on the right side of the last picture – in front of Maria??? I have seen it several times in various photos and always wondered what it was. It has had so many profuse blooms for a long time it seems to me. Thanks, Charlotte
Charlotte, Maria 9 and Dana above say they are hydrangeas…
We are in northern Wyoming and haven’t had a frost yet! Very bizarre. I’ve got a couple hundred chile plants along with the usual suspects out there. Some things about climate warming are great for late gardens.
Looks like possibly hydrangeas. But I am NOT a gardener. ?
I’m sorry i think it is a hydrangea..thanks..
I believe they are. I just googled the different types, and found a picture almost identical to yours called Oakleaf Hydrangea. We have them here, but not so full and beautiful as yours.
It is a Hydrangea panaculata. They have cone shaped flowery as opposed to the more common mop heads.
