A Work Of Art. Maria’s Long Awaited Heron Comes To Life. Wow.

by Jon Katz

It is only natural that the shy and beautiful Heron would appear as a wall hanging from Maria; she’s been working on her for a very long time. It is nearly done. I got to see it today; it was a  rare invitation from her to come to see a work in progress. She is very proud of it.

I asked her if heron was a male or a female, and she said, “I guess it’s a female because it’s me.”

The Heron symbol is individualism,  a message to people who take the plunge and choose to live their own lives.

Maria has been following the herons who nested her two years ago and has seen one or the other every day (and mentioned it every day.) This summer, their offspring, a young green heron, has been flying right over her head every time she goes out into the pasture.

She has gotten into her head and gained consciousness. I think that’s how creativity often works.

I’m not unbiased, but the result is one of her very best and most beautiful works. She keeps getting better and better. The piece speaks for itself; it doesn’t need my praise.

Her heron is a wall hanging; it’s not quite finished. She has to add the legs and is considering doing more with the background, but she hasn’t told me what she’s planning. She thinks that’s a jink.

Her wall hangings usually take a long time and are sold for $500 plus shipping.

Someone can buy it directly from her or see it on her Etsy page when she’s finished with it. If you have any questions about it,  you can follow the creation of the Heron on her blog, fullmoonfiberart.com, or you can e-mail her at [email protected].
