In The Friendship Chairs

by Jon Katz

Our friendship chairs sat empty on the lawn for much of the last two years. Everybody was social distancing. Now, friends are beginning to trickle back into our lives. I went to the optometrist this morning; my eyes are fine, and no new glasses are needed. It’s the end of a health care week when I see a doctor daily, and I’m ready for a break.

I’m also in good health, even after my bought with Covid. As I pulled into the driveway, I saw Maria and a friend sitting in the chairs, talking, laughing, and having lunch.

It’s nice to see people in the friendship chairs again.
