Refueling My Garden Beds: A Miraculous Rescue Lisianthus, Two Marigold Plants

by Jon Katz

I’m getting my garden bed ready for fall; I want to keep it going until the first deep frost and perhaps beyond. These flower photos have become vital to me and my idea of art. They are, I see, also essential to others. I’ve never been compared to Georgia Okkeefe before.

A couple of weeks ago, I decided this beautiful Lisianthus plant was dead, so I tossed it into the quiet part of Maria’s garden.

Yesterday, while weeding, she discovered a plant with a beautiful flower growing. It was the Lisnathus, still alive and flowering.  This flower is brand new, a miracle child.

I put it back in the bed and watered it repeatedly. I re-planted it right in the middle of two Marigold plants Maria brought for me yesterday. The Marigolds were a perfect backdrop. I checked that all the other Lisianthus plants I had are dead – this one wanted to live.

  1. Fabulous photography! Your pictures are becoming better all the time.
I love the idea of rescue plants. They seem to outdo themselves in thanks.
