Still Life: Rescue Flowers On The DIning Room Table

by Jon Katz

The idea of the rescue flower is very new to me; I guess I got the idea from Maria’s always looking to rescue dying plants from stores that neglect them.

The flowers above all fell out of my garden bed, some blown out by a storm, some knocked out by me as I leaned into the garden to take photos, and a couple found mysteriously on the ground. I pick them up, put them in water, and Maria has taken to lining them up on the dining room table.

I have to admit; it’s a beautiful addition to eating. I appreciate the idea of the rescue flower; why waste such beauty?
