Fate is an individual if nothing else. She always has her own unique way of doing things, even sleeping. Last night, I looked over and saw her in Zinnia’s dog bed (of course), and at first, I was alarmed. The dogs and other animals I’ve seen do that are usually dead.
I got closer, and Fate was snoring peacefully. For dogs, that is a position of extreme vulnerability. Fate obviously trusts where she is. And she had a good long nap. It’s another first from a dog who shows a lot of firsts (she’s a border collie from Wales who doesn’t like to herd sheep.)
My Dear Departed Mother once came running into the kitchen while I was cooking dinner and shouted “Barkley’s dead!” No, Mom. Just sleeping. On his back, tucked into a corner of the sofa, all 4 legs straight up in the air. We should all sleep so soundly.
This is my Airedale Zada’s preferred sleeping position! Looking like road kill, but obviously totally comfortable and trusting.
Same here, our dog loves sleeping like that too!
I think dogs do this to show us humans that, occasionally, we need to appear ridiculous… and to make us laugh out loud! (Mine tends to do this in the middle of the night against my outstretched leg….)
Hysterical
Our rescue, Lexi, sleeps in the same way. My husband calls her our ‘road-kill’ dog. They sure keep us amused. 🙂
