Rest And More Rest. Covid Flares Again. Donkey Lovers Return. New Wood-Fired Pizza In Our Little Town. It’s Getting Hip Around Here.

by Jon Katz

I’m sorry to say that my Covid symptoms returned with some force this afternoon, congestion, coughing,  joint pain, watery eyes, foggy head, and fatigue. I felt it building yesterday afternoon.

Before this happened, we had a wonderful visit from some friends this afternoon, which I’ll write about in the morning, and I got some good flower photos. By late afternoon, I was utterly exhausted.

Covid is up and down, and I know that, but it is frustrating a bit. Every time I think I’m normal, Covid reminds me I’m not, not yet.

Maria says I need to rest, but it feels like all I do is rest. No whining; I guess I need to rest. And sip some more NyQuil. I understand that I am lucky, but I don’t feel too fortunate at the moment.

I’m happy to report that I haven’t missed one day of blogging or taking photos. It’s a good record, and I don’t intend to break it. The flowers are cooperating.

Some neighbors have refurbished an old food cart – they call themselves Shift – and are going to the farmer’s market to show their new wood-fired pizza, salad, and sandwich menu. We will be there. Our little town is getting a bit more sophisticated all the time, and we know these people, they really know food.

Today was one of the sweetest afternoons since Covid. We used to have friends and animal lovers always come by to see the donkeys and sheep. Our friends resurfaced, bringing their kids and grandkids with carrots and apples.

We love the visits. I took some lovely photos, I’m too wiped up to post them tonight, but I will share these new flower photos. I don’t want them to get lost; they are some of my favorites as I continue to experiment with my camera. Wednesday, I meet with my Tech Adviser, Andrew, about how my Zoom experiment might work.

I’m hoping to get it going in two weeks.

I’m working hard to get back on my feed; all I need is for Covid to cooperate.

Flowers are all about color and light; I think I’ve found my excellent photo work. I can’t say Georgia Okkeefe consciously influenced me, but as I go back and review her work, I get her idea of going closer to the heart of flowers than any artist I know has gone.

I sometimes see her in my work, sometimes not. She was a genius. I am not. That is one very big difference.

I’m clocking out for tonight. I will be back in the morning. I have miles to go before I sleep, but first, I need to sleep.

I will put the holiday to good use.

  1. Jon, thanks for sharing about your experiences with COVID. So many folks down here in south central PA and the entire USA are in denial of it, as is the CDC and the government, even though more people are catching it.

I hope yours goes completely away soon.
