I went to the Moses Farm Stand today to thank Judy Page, an artist who works at Moses in the summers, for the beautiful Lisianthus Flowers that gave me so many beautiful photographs this summer.
The Lisianthus plants are fading now; they’ll all be gone in a week or so.
I’m ordering a bunch of them for next summer; I’ll give them their garden bed. I bought a dozen plants from Judy, who sold them at the farm stand.
While we were at Moses today thanking Judy and buying some plums and peaches, we also met Sawyer Moses (below), the grandson of Cathy Moses, who owns the farm stand.
He’s working at the stand this summer. I don’t know his plans, but after watching him today, I’d say he’s a worthy descendant of Grandma Moses, whose home is nearby.
I’d always read that Grandma Moses was a bit feisty, but the people who work at the farm stand are universally kind and fun to know. They brighten the summer in an increasingly testy world.
The workers there are family members who watch out for each other and their customers. I can’t imagine buying sweet corn from anywhere else.
Thanks, Judy, for your beautiful flowers. Good luck with your art this winter.
Hopefully, the farm stand will be open until the first frost, and I’ll see you before then. If not, I’ll see you in the Spring. You’ve become a fixture at the farm stand and a valued friend.
I’ve still got some beautiful flowers left; I expect some will be blooming until October.
And thanks, Lisianthus (also known as Eustoma), for the beautiful flowers you gave me all summer. I’ll see you in the Spring as well.
OH MY … Moses Farm … I did not realize that it was still operating and that it was the family of Grandma Moses…we have always loved their sweet corn and have not had it for years.. I am thinking even though, we too, are trying to recover from Covid we may have to make a trip their tomorrow. And, since I am also a gardener, I would love to put some Lisianthus in my garden. i have found your blog because I just read DOG DAYS – Dispatches from Bedlam Farm and loved it…I also read years ago The Soul of Dog which I have placed in a bookcase in a very special place with dog memorabilia of our three Labaradors. Your blog is a treat every day. May your health soon return.
thanks and welcome Catherine..the lisianthus’es are no longer on sale there, too late, but the corn and produce is wonderful and so are the people who work there..I like your name..
