Riding Out A Lightning And Thunderstorm With Two Wonderful Women

by Jon Katz

There was bright and dazzling lightning everywhere, followed by grumbling and banging thunder, high winds, and rain. I sat on the back porch with Maria, and we both decided to cut some flowers and prepare them for bouquets.

Fate and Bud were in the house; Zinnia was lying under the table with us.  Zinnia is the Queen Of Chill, thunder and lightning don’t bother her a bit.

Maria loves to sit out in the wind and the rain. It was pure joy to sit on the porch and watch the lightning and hear the booming with these two incredible women.

  1. Oh how I would have loved to have been there.
    Rain,thunder,lightening. 3 things I love, ,,cleansing,energizing

    1. It was a special moment, how fortunate I was to have these two wonderful women with me…And yes, I know one is a dog..

  2. I am so sorry to make this comment because I know you mean nothing negative, but it makes me nuts each time it happens and you have done this other times before. Kindly turn your ear to this important distinction. Zinnia is a female dog. Zinnia is NOT a woman. In this post, you are saying a dog and a human woman are both women – a dog is NOT a woman. I believe you mean both are female. But please understand you are actually equated a human woman and a dog as one and the same kind of being when you say they are both women and I’m sure you don’t mean that.

    1. Ethna, please, go away or at least don’t send silly messages to me. Writers play with words all the time. It’s called creativity, or figures of speech. Some things symbolize or reflect or evoke other things. It happens every day when writers write. What I mean matters, and if you had any idea what I mean, you wouldn’t be whining to me about this use of a word. You are writing about what YOU mean.

It’s also called humor, something you don’t seem familiar with. There is no need to be sorry because I’ll do it again or whenever I feel like it. I don’t need your blessing or permission, as you would know if you read the blog regularly or really cared about my feelings. You have no idea what I mean or why I wrote it, and you never bothered to ask.

I don’t need strangers on Facebook to tell me my dog is not human; that is condescending and insulting.
I don’t have your gall, hopefully. I write what works for me in every one of my 26 books, not, what works for you, and it’s a very personal thing, something I often have to defend on social media, where everybody’s business is everybody’s business.

Writers have their own voices and style; we all use words differently for different reasons at different times. Nobody is forcing you to read my blog; if it makes you nuts, get healthy somewhere else. To me, this is the digitally enabled new form of rudeness; everyone is doing it.

I wrote what I felt looking at the photo, and I am always honest about what I feel. You weren’t here. It is not your business to tell me to feel differently or what words to use. If this makes you nuts, then I am sorry for you. But not very. The blog is free, and so are 40 million other blogs. There are real problems to worry about in the world. I love what I wrote, and that’s the only person I need to please. I wouldn’t change a word. Otherwise, thanks for the message.

P.S. I love the name, Duffy.
