Sunrise In My Garden. Colors Are The Smiles Of Nature. Start The Day Bright And Right.

by Jon Katz

Colors are the smiles of nature”  — Leigh Hunt.

I see mood and perspective as paintbrushes or markers that color my world.

When my spirit is bleak, my day is gray. When I start the day with bright colors, my world brightens up. I see the world differently. This, I think, is one of the reasons people love flowers so much.

I never regret getting up at sunrise when the sun rises directly behind the flowers in my garden bed (new plants are coming, I’m planting to go all the way to the Fall). If there’s no time, I rush out with whatever I’m wearing; if there’s time I pull some pants and a shirt on.

I am never disappointed. I am a color and light addict, and flowers and light are the best possible medicine for an addict to color and light.

This morning, another doctor, my pulmonologist, and the architects of my sleep apnea mask. He might be a data freak, but he’s got me sleeping hours at a stretch for the first time in my life. He saved me from the fate of the young bedwetter – to get up all night.

My life is a painting, and I’m an artist. My camera is my brush.

When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” – Ted Grant.
