Robin In Brooklyn.

by Jon Katz

Emma’s eye for Robin’s photos continues; she took this photo yesterday of Robin in the middle of a display at a Brooklyn, N.Y., industrial park.

New York isn’t a simple place for anyone to live in – I lived there three different times and loved it each time – but Robin’s life reminds me of why I wanted her to grow up in Brooklyn rather than the New Jersey suburb we ended up in moving to.

This, perhaps, was the beginning of my discontent there. I never wanted to live in New Jersey and ever fit in there. I wouldn’t wish to live in Brooklyn now, I love where I live, but I can see how much it is doing for my granddaughter to be in so diverse and culturally rich an environment.

This is what I wanted for Emma, and it’s a joy to see her providing it to her own daughter.

Every week, Robin experiences something of value, something of learning and creativity and growth. Lucky kid, good mother. These photographs are important to me in different ways.

  1. I don’t think I have ever seen such a glorious display of flowers!! And they frame Robin in the most beautiful way!!

  2. Robin and the flowers are absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face today and sharing Robin’s adventures.

  3. This photo is such a glorious example of childhood exuberance combined with the beauty of flowers en masse. What a wonderful place to grow up…even though I have always been a country girl at heart! I have a friend who, along with his wife, is bringing up his two daughters in NYC, where he posts of their adventures all the time. The joy is palpable!
