Photo Journal. The Most Beautiful Photos Yet? My Life Today, July 16, 2022. Beautiful Flowers, Vegetagles To Bishop Maginn, Quiet Afternoon, Two Books Coming

by Jon Katz

A good day so far. It was almost 1:30. We got up early, and I took Maria out to breakfast; she had waffles with whipped cream, and I had yogurt with granola and fruit. We went to get vegetables for the garden at Bishop Gibbons; Maria is working the garden, I am tending mine and taking photos.

Today’s photos are, to me, the most beautiful I have taken yet. The flowers are maturing, blooming, and calling me to pay attention. I’m also learning how to photograph them. I like to think Georgia Okeeffe would love today’s Photo Journal.

I’m planning a few quiet hours this afternoon – reading, meditating, talking, and even taking a nap. I’m ready for Dental 2.0 Monday morning, Men’s Group 3.0 Tuesday afternoon, and Bishop Gibbons Thursday.

The week is filling up already. I am grateful that my illness is behind me, and I can resume the good works the pandemic interrupted. I hope you will all come along; I promise it will be exciting, meaningful, and fun.

(We had a big surprise this morning, the red lilies in Maria’s garden opened up, just a few feet from mine. They were hypnotically beautiful, an Okeeffe kind of image. Iphone photo)

The first Bishop Gibbins Art Wish List is coming next week. The school has never had the kind of support I hope we can give them, which keeps us hopeful and grounded. They could use the boost.

I was blown away by my garden this morning and rushed to get my cameras – the Iphone and the Leica 2. Here are today’s color and light photographs.

A reminder, my pictures are not marked or copyrighted; you are free to download them, copy them and use them in any way you wish. They are offered in return for your support and loyalty, and encouragement.

(Leica 2 photo, softer and deeper.)

(A new purple Zinnia appeared this morning. Welcome.)

(Our first red poppy appeared this morning; I love the wrinkled texture and soft color. So I used the Leica 2)

(This is a rescue Pansy, a baby saved from a windstorm and re-homed to its little jar by a kitchen window. The Baby Pansy is very happy and growing rapidly.)

Your photographs are exquisite. You must be Georgia O’Keefe’s grandson, or something close to that. How do you get that dreamy effect? I love it!
