Flo and Minnie are getting older. Minnie is 15 years old and we don’t know how old Flo is, but she is weakening.
She’s slow, thinning, and deaf. These two were always active, appearing and disappearing, trawling through the barn for mice, and the pasture for miles and baby rabbits.
They hunted all night and vanished for days.
Age has changed that, they have turned to one another for warmth and comfort, and it is a beautiful and uplifting thing to see.
On chilly days, the two of them curl up together, it is getting more difficult for them to stay warm. In the cold weather, they go into the basement, where we have installed a heated cat house.
They aren’t ready to go inside for the winter yet, they love being outside, and that is always where they want to be. One day in December or January, when the thermometer plunges, they will be at the door. They always let us know when it’s time for them to come in.
I have a feeling we are getting near their last year with us. I think when one dies, the other will follow. How else to stay warm? I am always touched by how these two wild creatures turn to one another for warmth and companionship. I hope they can die close together.
That is as lovely and touching a picture that you’ve ever shared with us.
Thank you.
I remember when they disliked each other, long long ago. This is very touching to see.
Such a lovely picture.
very moving photo. I think they may be guiding each other to the portal………… it looks that way. Bless them both
