Wind Advisory: Is The Answer Blowing In The Wind? Maybe…

by Jon Katz

I was experimenting with overexposures on my Leica 2 yesterday,  there was a wind advisory in our area, and when I came outside, the wind was blowing the leaves and the chairs and cushions all over the yard.

I was surprised by its ferocity of it and its strength. I decided to experiment with some to see if I could capture the power of the wind, and the sense that everything around us was going to lift off and blow away.

I didn’t use a tripod deliberately because I wanted the camera to shake a bit, in my hands and from the wind.

It was a bit frightening at some port, the wind was howling, and the sky got very dark. But the blue Adirondack chair built by the Amish really stood out.

Maybe, I wondered, it was a microburst or something like it, they’ve been happening all over the country.

I took some photos I really liked, they did, at least to me, capture the chaos and tension and color of the moment, taken behind the apple tree whose limbs were rising and falling and hours.

I kept thinking of the Dylan song, but I couldn’t tie it to what I was seeing and feeling.
