Garden Report, June 15, 2022. Beauty Erupting

by Jon Katz

I’m starting a more or less garden report, to share the progress of my three raised garden beds, one a memorial to the children killed in their classrooms.

Most of the garden flowers have bloomed or surfaced yet, but I’m off to a good and exciting start.

I water them twice daily, once early and once at dusk. People are sending me the names of these flowers, which I will forget but am happy to know. Thanks.

In my nature and floral photography, the first thing I do is to look and see where the sun is and make sure it is on the other side of the things I am photographing.

The sun is the photographer’s best friend, and nothing illuminates the beauty of a flower more than the sun as a background.

The Bud Planter is just like its namesake, tough and determined. I’m going to have some nice bouquets to pass around.

  1. Your flowers are beautiful! I’m a big fan of nasturtium and my seeds just started to sprout! I’m hoping for lots of blooms as the summer wears on. I live in a high plains desert which has a beauty of its own. However I came from WI so I plant a couple small pots (to save on water) with petunias, marigolds, verbena, and nasturtium. All of these flowers surrounded my grandparents farmhouse and bring back sweet memories. Thank you for sharing your pictures, they make my day!
