A publisher messaged me the other day, he said he liked my photos of my dogs and donkeys, and he wondered if I would ever consider a book of animal photographs.
I thanked him and declined.
I have no desire to write a hardcover book, my blog is my book, my living memoir. I’m doing what I ought to be doing, and not doing what I ought not to be doing. People who want to see my photos of dogs can come to the blog anytime and see them for free, or download them if they like.
The message got me to thinking though, about how much I love to photograph dogs at rest, especially active working dogs like Fate and Bud. Both of them are rushing around all the time, and when they sleep, there is something beautiful, calming, and poetic about it.
I always reach for the camera. Thank God for the blog, otherwise who would ever see these pictures?
While I was sick and sitting in my chair resting, the other dogs often surrounded me and went to sleep. Zinnia is big and clunky, but Fate and Bud are graceful and slip into spaces Zinnia could never go.
Dogs At Rest is one of my favorite photo series, in case you haven’t noticed. There is something graceful and comforting in watching dogs at rest.
He’s not wrong, though. You are Maria have so, so many wonderful photographs and I always think they make such a wonderful collection. Very few words need to be written as the photos speak for themselves. I may have to make myself a Bedlam Farm calendar for next year, but how would I select just 12 photos?
Hope you are making good progress.
The dogs seem so relaxed and at ease. I wish I could sleep that peaceful:) And Bud is just doggone cute!! Is Fate dreaming of sheep?
first of all, glad to hear your appointments today went well…..and I hope for your continued recovery from what you have been dealing with. And…….your dogs at rest photos are captivating me. Mostly Fate, because I think all in all……….she is the most *extreme* of your 3 dogs. She is *on full blast*…..or *off*………..and seeing her resting is a beautiful thing. Folded up on the dog bed (or wherever)…………… great contrasts for this lovely dog

Thanks, Susan, Fate is unique, a source of inexhaustible energy and love in equal amounts.
Much agreed. I love to watch my sleeping beauties. Shelties are always on the go, but they know when it’s time to rest, unlike me.
