Surprise! Not Covid, But What? Tommorrow, The Search Begins. Going To The Prom!

by Jon Katz

So the Covid test administered by Saratoga Hospital yesterday came back negative. I don’t have Covid-19.

But I still have considerable pain from my night staircase fall and trouble in my stomach and organs.

With Covid ruled out, my medical support group is taking action. I have an appointment with my primary care nurse and her team tomorrow morning at 8:30.

(Photo above: Maria is working on her one-person pasture fertilization project. She spreads some donkey manure every morning over a different part of the pasture. She never stops.)

They may or may not want X-rays and may or may not prescribe viral control medication.

It may not be Covid, but it is almost certainly a virus. I don’t think it’s a tick bite, but I could be wrong. But I’m thinking something bit me.

And they will want some blood for sure.

Today, I remembered that a week or so before I got sick, there was an angry red, incredibly itchy swelling on my left ankle. But it did get better after all. I bet it was leaving some poison behind.

Maria and I thought it was a spider bite and it didn’t lessen or go away for days; it kept me up several nights.

I know this is consistent with many of the awful tick bites people up here have been getting for a few years.

The pain in my side from the fall down the stairs is a different story, and I suspect they figure out if it is a bruise or something else. Either way, we’ll get to the bottom of it over the next day or two.

And since it isn’t Covid, I have a chance of getting to Bishop Maginn High School Prom on Friday. I’m determined to get there with Zinnia.

Sue Silverstein is fighting me, saying I can’t come without Maria’s blessing. We’ll see what the doctor says.

I see the light at the other end.

  1. You better go. You’ve worked too hard putting it together & it won’t be the same without you.

  2. I’m so glad you continue to pursue the mysterious illness. You have wonderful people to advise you. Very hopeful you will feel able to attend Prom…the students and faculty will be delighted. Thanks for taking us along on your many and varied adventures, Jon.

  3. glad you are *better* but obviously something still going on. Having worked in the medical field for 40 years…… these *mysteries* are still fascinating to me, though frustrating at times for patients and the medical professionals. I think you may be onto something as far as the bite on your ankle perhaps being relevant. I’m happy your covid test was negative…… and hope this will allow you to indeed attend the Prom with bells on!

  4. I ‘m hoping by Prom night you are going to the event with everyone’s blessing! I will continue prayers for a complete recovery. I am so happy that you are doing better each day. Sending positive, healing prayers to you!

  5. I am happy that there is a chance you may get to the prom after all…everyone involved would be so disappointed if you (and Zinnia) were unable to attend. I agree with Susan M that the bite on your ankle needs to be explored…could be any of several types of critters that left some venom behind in your body that is causing all those problems. I just hope they get to the bottom of it soon, for your sake and Maria’s. Positive healing vibes are being sent your way!
