I took a lot of photos this week in my rather frenzied push to do good rather than be angry and despairing, although sometimes they are valid and important emotions. This one, of Mansion Director Kassi Gormly and Ann, a resident of the Mansion’s Memory Care Unit, stuck in my head and touched my heart.
It also gave me hope, there are so many good people in this world. They work to soothe, heal, understand and lift people up, I am too weary of people who just look for ways to tear others down.
This image is an antidote.
Kassi was helping Ann plant some vegetable plants purchased by the Army Of Good. They sat quietly out in the sun as Kassi patiently and carefully guided Ann on how to plant the beans and squash.
To me, that was what caretaking is about. It’s difficult to despair when you see that.
It triggered a discussion about raised garden beds, dogs, and gardens that brightened my week. Zinnia and I have begun regular visits to the Memory Care unit, which is actually dedicated to the Army Of Good.
You deserve it.
