I was thinking this morning how fortunate Zinnia and Bud are to have become such close and supportive friends.
Zinnia lets Bud win in their wrestling matches; she allows him to flip her over so he can win and feel like a tough guy.
Zinnia cleans Bud’s ears and waits for him to go first when they go outside or come inside the farmhouse. Zinnia shares her bones and treats with Bud, and they curl up together when it gets cold.
They are always together, sleeping, chewing, wrestling inside the house.
Zinnia has helped Bud get over his anxiety and caution; the two trust each other and have never quarreled, as dogs so often do.
Fate doesn’t have much interest in either of them, so Bud is also a pal for Zinnia to hang out with.
Zinnia has such a generous spirit, and Bud is affectionate when he is not chasing birds or squirrels or moles or chipmunks. It is great fun to see the two of them together.
They are lucky to have each other.
