I feel like I’m in an Italian Opera, one goodbye after another, but our lives are like that; things are always happening. As we left, I got my photo journal for the day; we opened the South Pasture gate, and the donkeys and sheep were free to graze freely and at their will on fresh grass; nothing in the world makes them happier than getting out on the grass after a long winter.
We opened the gate, and they all rushed out there. Maria said her goodbyes to Fanny and Lully, and the sheep and donkeys were chowing down; I love the sound they make when they pull the grass up off the ground. The sheep will fatten out now, and they will be fat and happy when we return.
Sheep are sensible eaters; they won’t eat themselves to death as horses will. They love to graze at night when it’s calmer and safer from predators. They can come and go as they please until we get back, and then we will start rotational graze. We have plenty of grass for 11 sheep and two donkeys.
The grass had shot up a couple of inches since we opened the gates yesterday. Now we are off, and it was great sending that message about the Ukrainian children and seeing the animals out on the grass. Aside from everything else, we can sleep a bit later in the morning.
Happy Biddy
See you Thursday, and thanks for all of the good wishes. Goodbye once more. I’m eager to get my hands on Tina Brown’s new book, The Palace Papers: Inside The House Of Windsor; England is aflame with all of the juicy and revealing gossip, and apparently, the truth about Harry and Megan and the Royal Family.
I admit it; I love that stuff. The book is coming out on Tuesday; maybe I can get my hands on it where we are going. I love royal family gossip, and Tina Brown is a real journalist with good creds.
Happy Donkeys, starting to shed
