In America, during the worst of the pandemic years, more than 14 million people bought or rescued, or adopted dogs for compassion and company for themselves and their children.

My granddaughter Robin, has one of those dogs, Sandy, a mutt of unclear lineage. Their relationship is a beautiful one. Sandy has done her work well, she has comforted Robin and kept her company, and loved her during times that were disturbing and frightening for children.

My daughter Emma is a wonderful mother, this is another of her many gifts to her child.

Dog lovers worry about what will happen to many of these pandemic dogs, many are already being abandoned and returned to shelters as the pandemics ease. That won’t be the case with Sandy. She has a good home for life.

She has created yet another dog lover for life.
