For the first couple of years of his life, Bud lived outside in a roofless kennel enclosure with several other small dogs. All of the others died of exposure either to heat or to cold.
The rescue people paid $150 to buy him and get him out.
It is something of a miracle that Bud survived. Perhaps as a consequence, he takes his comfort and warmth seriously. He reminds me of a bird in a nest.
He always finds the highest spot with the softest underway.
He can go wherever he wants, he earns it. We have seen firsthand how sensitive to heat and cold he is.
He can’t bear to be out in the cold for more than a few minutes and he is almost always lying next to the woodstove. The same applies to heat. That can easily kill the flat-nosed small breeds.
It’s hard to think of what it must have been like for him, he is very much a sweetie, but it is also nice to see him so comfortable and warm.
