Two weeks ago, I asked for the support of a gofundme campaign to help get Aladin and Nataliya’s family out of Poland, where they had fled, and to America, where Aladin and Natalya operate a Slovanian cafe in Troy, N.Y., and come to our farmer’s market almost every weekend all year.
The family has approved visas to come to our country.
We know Aladin and Nataliya well well. They are loving, caring, and hardworking additions to our country.
The gofundme project, launched by one of their neighbors in Troy, initially asked for $8,000 but got more than $10,00 to help pay the family’s visa, travel, and expenses.
The son and father in the family are missing.
(Me and Aladin at the farmer’s market last Sunday)
One grandchild and two children escape the Russian onslaught with no home, no money, and one suitcase between them. They lost every single thing they owned.
They have no news of the missing father.
Aladin and Nataliya have been overwhelmed with worry and sadness.
The Russians left them with nothing. Everything they owned was destroyed.
Today, we learned that they had been granted visas to come to the United States through Mexico, and they will be arriving shortly.
It feels good to be able to help.
The suffering there is so overwhelming, it was good to focus on specific people in a specific family and get them to their families and safety.
My heart just jumped at the news.
This is good news in a sea of horrific news, and I am grateful for all of you who rushed to support this family. I hope to meet them when they arrive.
It was another shining moment for the Army Of Good, and I appreciate it, as do Aladin and Nataliya.
Good Going Army of Good and their Supporters. You made it happen…..
The New Yorker that came in the mail this morning contains this quote.
“If I look at the mass I will never act. If I look at the one I will.”
Mother Teresa
Great news! Let us know what they might need when they arrive!
Hoping they have a safe and uneventful journey.
