Two Images: Color And Black And White; The Angry Sky

by Jon Katz

When I first saw this sky, I grabbed my cameras and ran outside; I thought it had an apocalyptic feeling.

It turned out to look worse than it was, at least around the farm. It felt like a tornado sky, which we had been warned about earlier.

After a half-hour or so, the sky moved off to the South. I took a photo in color, with my Iphone Pro Max 13, and then again with the Leica, to see how the two cameras view this sky.

The Iphone camera is fantastic when it comes to landscapes, and this was, in its way, a landscape shot. I love how the light peeked through on the road; I guess the sun was still on the other side of that storm cloud.

I don’t have a winner; I like them both. Both cameras did well in almost pitch black light. This is a photo I might print out. Feel free to do the same at no charge.

  1. I really like both of these photos, but the instant I saw the first one that you took with your iPhone I was pulled into it. Unbidden also came my name for it, “The Road to Hope”. I was going to ask if you would sell it to me, but I see that you said to just take it. I will attempt to print it in such a way that I can frame it. I truly love it! Thank you!

  2. I was immediately captured by the color image. The black and white was dramatically lovely but didn’t pull me in quite the same. Both wonderful but enjoy the cold more—this time.
