Aleks, Alina, and Alina, three Ukraine refugees who fled to Poland, have received nearly $10 ooo from a gofundme page for Aladin and Natashya, owners of the Slavonian Cafe the parents, and grandparents.
Thanks again to the Army Of Good for coming through to help the needy and the vulnerable.
This Thursday, the three will be meeting with State Department officials in Poland about getting vias to the United States. They will be reunited with their family, Aladin, and Natashya, regular food vendors at our local farmer’s market and loved by everyone who knows them.
Friends in Troy launched the gofundme page two days ago and took off after it got the Attention of the Army of Good yesterday on the blog. The crowdsourcing site asked for $6,000, then $8,000, and then $10,000 as the donations poured in.
They’ll have the $10,000 by morning.
The money will go to visa fees, travel expenses, airline tickets, and clothes. The family fled Ukraine with nothing but a single suitcase. They need everything. The need in Ukraine is overwhelming, helping this people is gratifying.
Their grandparents, who run a cafe and travel all over the area to sell their food at farmer’s markets, are among the sweetest and most gentle people I know. I’m eager to meet the people we helped come to the United States. Alina, Alexa, and Aleks escaped with their lives and made it to Poland. They are homeless.
As of 4 p.m. Sunday, the fund was rising at more than 9,300 dollars. I appreciate the support. The needs in Ukraine are overwhelming, but these are three lives we can help. We had a good week. We also raised $7,000 for a prom that the students at Bishop Maginn High School will remember fondly.
Good work, people.
